Workshop on homemade insecticides

The Ministry of Municipality represented by Al Rayyan Municipality in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) organized an awareness conference on Tuesday on safe homemade insecticides and insect repellent plants. During the event at Al Rayyan Theatre, Nawwaf Nasser al-Shafi, director of the public affairs department of Al Rayyan municipality, explained that the aim was to raise awareness about the manufacture of household insecticides in a way simple and safe, and urged people to keep insect repellent plants at home.

The workshop was presented by MoECC Environmental Researcher Suzan Mohamed Essam. She talked about how to get rid of insects without using chemical pesticides and insecticides and about safe ways to make insecticides at home from commonly available substances.
She classified the types of insecticides according to the bugs and insects targeted, because each type of insecticide is made in particular to fight against a certain category of bugs or insects. In addition, the workshop introduced various types of insect repellent and insect repellent plants that should be kept at home. The researcher pointed out that most of these plants have strong or attractive scents that would be effective in repelling certain types of insects.
