JOB DESCRIPTION

The Plant Whisperer is a plant studio specializing in creative plant-related courses and informative workshops. We teach people how to connect and care for plants. We run courses on terrarium and kokedama making, plant propagation, plant parenting, and edible gardens. We also sell DIY kits, plants and plant accessories.

We run workshops across Melbourne in person, at our Brunswick studio and also online. The majority of our events are public or private, such as corporate team building, birthday parties, bachelorette parties, etc.

The Plant Whisperer is looking for an enthusiastic, personable and experienced green thumb to join our creative team. The right candidate will be full of plant knowledge and will find joy in leading large and small groups. You will have a strong interest in plants and plant parenting and an innate ability to ensure plants thrive under your care. We are looking for teachers who have indoor or outdoor knowledge (edible gardening), or preferably both!

In the role, you will engage with our students in a warm and welcoming way, generously sharing your knowledge and skills. You will be upbeat and friendly and will make everyone who attends our classes feel welcome. You will be a naturally kind and caring person, emotionally intelligent and approachable. Work closely with other managers and office directors to coordinate dates and events, and teach both in person and online

In this role, you will:

– Facilitate workshops both onsite and offsite as well as online

-Plan and prepare lessons, sometimes setting up drinks and cheese platters

-Work with the director to develop new classes

-Supervise and/or assist larger classes by working with other teachers.

You will thrive in this role if you:

-Have good verbal communication in English

– Have excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills

-Understand how consulting missions work

– Are naturally curious and this drives you to research, experiment and deduce your path to knowledge.

-Have worked in a teaching or facilitator role before, or are a natural “people person”

-Can prioritize and execute tasks efficiently

– Possess critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

– Are LGBTQIA+ inclusive and believe in supporting and encouraging all humans, regardless of race/ethnicity, age, and physical ability.

-Have experience with indoor plants (Hobbiest and green thumb welcome, no degree required) and a real passion for plants

-Must have own car or have access to one
