INDIAN HEAD, Maryland – The Charles County Public Schools Student Services Department (CCPS) will be hosting a virtual workshop for parents and caregivers on December 15. All virtual presentations will include an interpreter for Spanish speaking parents and caregivers. The next workshop will focus on healthy relationships in adolescents.

Student services staff – school counselors, school psychologists, and school staff employees – will continue to share information during the school year that reflects the teaching of socio-emotional learning (SEL) that students receive in their classes. The workshops will continue to help parents and guardians gain knowledge about the information, coping strategies and skills that students learn to cope with. Topics for high school workshops will include depression, healthy relationships, healthy communication, stress management, life changes and adjustments. Some of the topics for the elementary level workshops will include aligning Move This World strategies, bullying, and dealing with strong emotions.

A virtual workshop for parents of high school and high school students will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on December 13. Malik Williams, school counselor at Matthew Henson Middle School, will lead a discussion on coping strategies. Parents and guardians will learn coping strategies from their child’s perspective.

Parents and guardians of high school and high school students are invited to attend a virtual workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on December 15. Abby Pherson, a school counselor at La Plata High School, will talk about healthy relationships. In the workshop, parents and caregivers will learn what makes friendships healthy from an adolescent perspective.

The workshop is designed to help parents / guardians bond with their child as they learn to determine if their friendships are healthy and what to do if they are not.
