In line with Tullow Ghana’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting Ghanaian suppliers and contractors in the oil and gas industry, the company, in conjunction with the Petroleum Commission (PC), held the third session of its webinar workshops on security and guard services.
Organized under the Tullow Ghana and Petroleum Commission Business Academy partnership, the session focused on local content requirements, contracts and procurement process, technical requirements, environment, health and safety assessments. security and due diligence requirements.
Over 80 participants from the local security and guard services community took part in the webinar to get adequate information on Tullow’s requirements for providing security and guard services.
Opening the webinar, Dr Jennifer Bruce-Konuah, Head of Local Content at Tullow Ghana, said, “Tullow’s collaboration with the Petroleum Commission on local capacity development is part of Tullow’s local content commitment which aligns with the government’s local content distribution objectives.
“The workshop aimed to build the capacity of local businesses, demonstrate transparency in contracts and procurement processes, and highlight key requirements for businesses wishing to provide security and guard services. ‘men in Tullow Ghana,’ she revealed.
Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Director of Local Content at the Petroleum Commission, thanked Tullow for the partnership and for taking practical steps to deepen local content participation by supporting local businesses.
“The Petroleum Commission is committed to ensuring that the government’s local content program in the extractive industry is implemented and benefits local businesses,” he said.
Regarding the local content requirements, participants were guided through the eligibility criteria which places a strong emphasis on indigenous Ghanaian businesses, the local content questionnaire and the local content development plan.
The Contracts and Procurement topic explained the prequalification structure, business requirements and tentative timelines indicating the start and end of the entire bidding process until contract award.
In addition, the technical requirements session of the webinar focused on the scope of work, Tullow’s targeted locations and facilities, services required and contractor responsibilities.
To ensure that selected contractors have the capability required to perform the task safely and to ensure that they are committed to preventing injury, protecting assets, the environment and promoting good health at work, participants were guided by environmental, health and safety (EHS) requirements.
Finally, ethics and compliance are key aspects of Tullow’s operations, which is why suppliers have been trained in Tullow’s due diligence requirements and the expectations of sub-contractors in carrying out the work.
