AMES, Iowa – Members of the grape and wine industry are invited to join Aude Watrelot, oenology specialist from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, for a series of free webinars on chemistry and the quality of the wine. The webinars, produced in partnership with University of Minnesota oenology specialist Drew Horton, offer industry members the opportunity to discuss wine quality improvement knowledge and techniques. The first webinar, “Managing Acidity: From Vine to Wine,” will be held May 31 at 3 p.m. CDT on Webex.
The webinar series brings together academic and industry partners to discuss the latest advances in winemaking. Each session will last 90 minutes and begin with a short presentation. Next, winemakers from across the United States will share during a panel discussion.
“The grape and wine industry in the American Midwest focuses on interspecific grapes, but not much is known about their chemistry, how they change during winemaking, and best practices for obtaining high-quality wines. quality that consumers will appreciate. Therefore, I decided to develop a series of webinars that would combine research and timely practical advances,” Watrelot explained.
