Reflecting on what the Poetics Lab means to her, poet, volunteer and future workshop participant Nycki C. said, “For me, the Poetics Lab provides a connection to the community that I didn’t have as a as a person, even less as a poet. Having a space to present poetry in the community encourages the exploration of who I am as a poet, as a person, as a member of the community. The participants in the tPL represent a representative sample of the population. Poets and animators would like to see a wider age range attend events – young people provide hope and need to know that their stories and voices matter.

The Poetics Lab works with three main objectives. Participants will:

1. Explore the importance of language in identity formation.

2. Discover the creative process of writing poetry.

3. Engage with their community through performance.
