Staff from 900 schools participate in Pune Police Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Workshop

Principals, teachers, non-teaching staff and management committee members from around 900 schools in and around Pune attended a sensitization workshop on Saturday organized by the city’s police on topics including abuse child sexual abuse, the provisions of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses (Pocso) Act and the concept of ‘good touch-bad touch’.

The online workshop was organized in association with the Department of Secondary Education, Pune Zilla Parishad, Association of Principals of Secondary and Tertiary Schools of Pune and NGO Salam Bombay Foundation. Pune Police Co-Commissioner Sandeep Karnil, along with other senior officers and inspectors in charge of all Pune police stations, attended.

Police officials said the recent incidents have highlighted the crucial role that everyone involved, including parents, school authorities, teachers, counselors and the police, have to play in welfare. and child safety. Officials said the workshop highlighted the importance of an environment of trust and sharing that needs to be created in this regard among all stakeholders and children.

The workshop included sessions on sexual abuse of school children, the provisions of the Pocso law, awareness of substances such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs, and the provision of safe transportation for children.

The police have organized workshops for children focusing on the concept of “good touch-bad touch” where they are sensitized to aspects related to interpersonal behavior, sexuality, gender issues and sexual abuse. The police are assisted by behavior specialists, child psychologists and social workers for these activities.
