SMC concludes three-day workshop for advisors

The workshop highlighted and helped to understand the roles and responsibilities of municipal councilors and the functions of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation under the SMC Act.

A three-day workshop organized in collaboration with the ‘Praja Foundation’ which aimed at empowerment and capacity building of municipal councilors ended today.

According to the SMC spokesperson, the overall aim of the program was to enable participants to broaden their concept of knowledge base on urban governance.

The workshop highlighted and helped to understand the roles and responsibilities of municipal councilors and the functions of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation under the SMC Act.

Three workshop modules were divided into two phases.

In one phase, the workshop focused on introducing Praja’s 74th Amendment, urban governance and reading any law.

In the second phase, the workshop focused on explaining the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act (JKMCA), which helped in understanding their roles and responsibilities.

Priyanka Sharma and Mr. Balwant Kirar held various sessions including three tier government system, 74th constitution amendment law, method of reading a law and comments and discussions were held during of the workshop.

Besides the companies, senior SMC officers including Mr. Riyaz Ahmed Shah, Mr. Riyaz Ahmed Shah, Mr. Syed Abul Qasim, Mr. Mudasir Hussain Chaudhary and others attended the workshop.

SMC Commissioner, Mr. Athar Amir Khan held an interactive session with the Corporators.

Heads of various wings including Co-Commissioner Administration Mr. Riyaz Ahmed Shah, Co-Commissioner Adm Syed Abul Qasim, Co-Commissioner Works Mr. Rajinder Singh, Co-Commissioner Planning Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir, SMC Secretary Mr. Mudasir Hussain Chaudhary had an educational and learning session with Croorators explaining in detail the working mechanism of their concerned wings.

In addition to the exchange of information and ideas, discussions also took place on the operation of committees and the presentation of relevant issues at company or committee meetings.

A subsequent feedback and discussion session also took place in the final hour.

The SMC Secretary, Mr. Mudasir, presented a vote of thanks on the occasion.
