SIMIAN welcomes 9th grade students for the LASC workshop

At the end of February, we were very pleased to welcome students from Highams Park School interested in a career in the scaffolding industry, to our London Academy for Sustainable Construction (LASC) for a three hour workshop with the SIMIAN team .

What is the workshop about?

After a briefing and risk assessment, students can then progress to a practical scaffolding course, which includes the construction of tube and fitting system towers. Students then participate in a virtual reality demonstration and hands-on workshop; it is, as you might expect, always a huge success!

Highams Park School took advantage of our offer, with 12 students joining us at our LASC center (and having a blast!).

Take a look below at the feedback received from students about their experience with us:

“Students were able to see the facilities and what goes on within the academy. They were able to take part in a demonstration which required them to equip themselves with safety equipment, including protective helmets and boots, to the delight of the students.

They all engaged in a hands-on workshop and worked well as a team during the erection and dismantling of the scaffolding project assigned to them. I was so proud of how the students performed throughout the morning taking on different challenges. They were respectful and took on the tasks with maturity, which made this trip more rewarding.

The students left better informed about the construction industry and the different possibilities available to them. General comments were how much they enjoyed the workshop. » – Lisa Charlton, Career Advisor/Coordinator, Highams Park School.
