QU organizes a workshop on membrane water treatment

The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) of Qatar University (QU) organized a short two-day training entitled “Workshop on Membrane-Based Water Treatment”.
The workshop was recently held at the Research Complex of Qatar University.
A number of engineers working in water technology at Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) attended the workshop, which consisted of lectures and training sessions delivered by leading experts in the field.
The workshop is a reinforcement of this vital industry in Qatar, especially with regard to desalination by membranes and reverse osmosis (RO), which saves energy compared to the thermal technologies currently used in Qatar, as the country moves towards energy saving and green. -an environmentally friendly alternative energy, QU said in a statement.
Dr. Mohamed Irshidat, Director of CAM, said: “This workshop is part of the training and knowledge transfer activities carried out by the Water Technology Unit (WTU) which was recently created in the CAM in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in Desalination and Water Treatment.”
WTU’s capability has been built to focus on comprehensive water characterization using state-of-the-art equipment needed for detailed analysis of water and related chemicals, and to develop/adopt new technologies suitable for Qatar’s water conditions, the statement said.
In addition, WTU helps develop technologies to increase water capacity through water reuse from industrially treated water and produced water.
