Workshop method

Overwatch fan creates Workshop mode to visualize the range of each ability

All Monitoring player spoke the words, “there’s no way I was within range of this.” One fan decided that was enough, so they went into the workshop and created a mode that shows the effective range of each ability. Fans can access it via Atelier code K2YJ4.

In the nearly 40-minute video shared on YouTube, the user goes through the entire list, showing how to use the viewer for each ability. Some abilities like Tracer’s Blinks or Reaper’s Shadow Step are displayed with a sphere centered around the character. This indicates the range of those abilities, for example, how far Reaper can teleport. This is useful for players to find new routes to points or areas that they may not have known were accessible, which could give them a head start in their next matches.

For projectile abilities like Sigma’s Accretion or Pharah’s Concussion Blast, the mode calculates trajectory and displays it with a sphere indicating the area of effect where the projectile will collide. Using this visual guide, players can practice hitting these abilities from a distance, much like the lineups in CS: GO Where VALUING. There have been mods in the past to visualize the trajectories of certain abilities, especially for Ana’s biotic grenade, but having her wrapped up in a full ability viewer shows its usefulness for each character.

The next time you’re hit by the world’s longest Roadhog hook or the very end of Reinhardt’s Earthshatter, take some time to jump into that Workshop mode and get a better feel for those abilities.
