The Department of Botany and Complementary Course in Floriculture and Landscaping at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh held an online workshop on Sunday.
The workshop entitled “An overview of diseases of vegetables and ornamental crops: symptoms and treatment” was held under the aegis of the College’s Internal Quality Assurance Unit.
The workshop aimed to provide information on common diseases affecting vegetables and ornamental plants, and the methodology followed for disease control.
Dr. Kishor Sharma, Plant Pathologist, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, shared first-hand information on common diseases that occur in commercially grown fruits and vegetables or in the home garden and suggested various control measures that could be implemented to mitigate and prevent these diseases from affecting plants.
The activity was highly appreciated by the participants which included faculty, students as well as many support staff.
The director, Dr. Nisha Bhargava, welcomed this initiative to promote sustainable practices. She expressed hope that the plant disease management solutions suggested at the workshop will be extremely useful for plant enthusiasts as well as those pursuing commercial agriculture.
