Murfreesboro City Council will host a workshop meeting on Wednesday to discuss Broad Street development, impact fees, downtown parking and more

Downtown Murfreesboro continues to grow

MURFRESBORO, Tenn. – Murfreesboro City Council meets in a regular workshop on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the Municipal Airport Business Center. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss a number of issues with key leaders who are employees of the Murfreesboro government.

Some of the important topics to discuss include Broad Street redevelopment and development impact fees as growth in the community continues.

Another point to address is parking in downtown Murfreesboro, which will continue to be an increasing concern as the historic square sees new development.

As many know, contractors are building a new mixed-use development on the grounds of what was once the First United Methodist Church. As agreed, the designers incorporated the original cupola of the First Methodist Church into the building plans.

When complete, the new structure, dubbed One East College, will include 156 residential units, a 110-room hotel, offices, retail stores and restaurants, and a parking lot for more than 600 cars to help alleviate parking issues with new residents and visitors. The development covers just over 2 acres at the intersection of North Church and East College streets.

The Parks Group is already renting office space for the structure which has yet to be built. Office space rents at $27 per square foot in the future building.

City officials believe the mixed-use structure is already sparking new interest in downtown Murfreesboro, which will equate to increased commercial and residential growth.
