JAMMU, January 19: With the aim of improving the research productivity of PG and PhD students by enriching the concepts, skills and tools of molecular biology and immunology techniques, a 14-day hands-on workshop at the national conference on “Molecular Biology and Immunology Techniques” was organized by the Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary and Livestock Sciences, SKUAST-Jammu, in collaboration with the Scientific and Technical Research Council, DST, New Delhi.
In the farewell ceremony, Dr. MS Bhadwal, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, was the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the role of advanced techniques in the early and reliable diagnosis of animal diseases, especially during outbreaks in the field. He added that the solution to all the challenges in animal sciences lies in molecular biology approaches that aim to improve animal health by developing new vaccines and diagnostics, the development of new breeding technologies, the production of biopharmaceuticals by transgenesis and animal products.
Doctor Mohd. Altaf Bhat, Professor and Head of Division of Veterinary Microbiology and Immunology, SKUAST-K, was the guest of honor and in his speech emphasized that the application of advanced techniques in the research plans of doctoral students will lead to better scientific findings and practical utility of the research plan undertaken. He was of the opinion that in the years to come, the science of molecular biology and immunology will play a revolutionary role for the upliftment of humanity, its ecosystem and mother nature “Earth”.
Dr. Anish Yadav, Professor and Course Director ICAR-National Fellow cum, made a presentation and discussed at length the activities carried out during the workshop. He informed that renowned international and national experts from different fields from leading institutes such as GADVASU Ludhiana, IIT Jammu, SKUAST-K, Srinagar, SKUAST-Jammu and SMVDU-Katra were invited to deliver the speeches. Also, as this was a hands-on workshop, the focus was on performing different advanced techniques by the participants themselves.
Certificates were distributed by the main guest. Dr Sanku Borkataki, Asstt Prof, Veterinary Parasitology presented the vote of thanks. The Head of Divisions and faculty members of SKUAST-J graced the occasion. Dr. Kwardeep Kaur conducted the proceedings of the farewell ceremony.
