InfoNile 2022 Workshop Training: Reporting on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin

InfoNile is calling for applications for training, workshop and mentorship on Report on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin.

Journalists and editors from Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo are invited to apply for this program which includes a one-week workshop in Uganda from July 17-22, 2022, mentorship and possible support to produce a multimedia report on rivers and biodiversity in the Nile Basin.

This workshop is organized by InfoNil. InfoNile is a cross-border group of geojournalists whose mission is to uncover critical stories about water issues in the Nile Basin through data-driven multimedia storytelling. InfoNile is a project of Africa Water Journaliststhe largest network of journalists dealing with water on the African continent.

The Nile is a complex freshwater ecosystem that supports an enormous amount of life. It is one of Africa’s most valuable resources. Millions of people and various species depend on its waters.

The Nile provides diverse habitats for species along its length and basin. Climate change, degradation and unsustainable resource use of the Nile and other rivers threaten both people’s livelihoods and the basin’s biodiversity, which also impacts human livelihoods .

The workshop

Journalists and editors from Nile Basin countries will be hosted in Uganda for a week-long workshop which will include presentations, field visits, discussions, practical sessions and group activities on; Covering rivers and biodiversity in the Nile Basin (gaps and opportunities); Data and geo journalism, science journalism, investigative journalism and storytelling.

At the end of the workshop, you will pitch a story to the InfoNile team under the theme: Reporting on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin for possible funding and mentorship.

Selected journalists will receive

  • Transport to Uganda and back to their country of origin.
  • Accommodation including meals for the duration of the workshop
  • The best story pitchers will receive grants and mentorship to produce their stories.
