A workshop focused on emergency preparedness for seniors will be offered next Sunday, June 8 as part of Seniors Week 2022 in Penticton.
Members of the Aging Well Penticton team, Penticton Emergency Support Services, Penticton Fire Department Emergency Program and FireSmart will host the session, which begins at 2 p.m. in Room 4 of the Community Center of Penticton.
Some of the topics that will be covered during the workshop include:
• Creation of a personal/household emergency plan
• Appropriate insurance coverage for disasters/emergencies
• Emergency assistance services available before, during and after an emergency
• Use FireSmart to reduce the impacts of wildfires on your home
Participants will also have the chance to create a to-go bag, which will include city-provided supplies (valued at over $60) that seniors may need in the first 72 hours after an emergency.
There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required. To do so, visit www.penticton.ca/agefriendly, email [email protected] or call 250-490-2400.
Since seniors can access information in different ways, the city is asking residents to share information about this workshop with family, friends and neighbors who may not have access to traditional media channels. .
