Drag-themed workshop held for first-time home buyers

Benoit Realty is launching a series of real estate events with a drag-themed workshop designed for first-time home buyers.

The “Go!” The workshop will include a comedy by local drag performer, Dora Knob, and her sidekick Dora Belle.

It will cover topics such as where to start, properties to avoid, the bidding process, negotiation, inspection, topic removal, mortgages and financing.

Dora Knob has been performing for four years and is the alter ego of Benoit Vaudry, realtor at Royal LePage Kelowna.

Vaudry said buying a first home can be daunting, especially in today’s market.

“While getting into the real estate market is definitely serious business, you don’t have to learn it,” he said.

“That’s why I thought it would be fun to create an event that combines information and entertainment that can celebrate diversity and make people laugh while demystifying what is a multi-layered and often confusing process.”

Behind Dora Belle’s streak is Grace Pontes, a mortgage professional at Verico Compass Mortgage.

Pontes said she was eager to provide information to first-time home buyers.

“Having to go through what a mortgage is, the difference between pre-approval and pre-qualification and choosing a fixed or variable rate can stop people in their tracks, so I hope this event creates some clarity and guidance for homebuyers,” she explained.

The event will take place on April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Okanagan Spirits Distillery in Kelowna.

Tickets are free and include a free drink, deli snacks and the chance to win door prizes.
