DFI’s football filmmaking workshop kicks off May 21

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has announced a new cinematic challenge in partnership with the Qatar Football Association (QFA). Up-and-coming filmmakers were invited to join a workshop on May 21 to make their short films about the sport that nations love and are so attached to. This will coincide with the organization of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This workshop will be an intensive introduction to the world of cinema and the tools needed for it. Through a series of engaging hands-on activities, students will learn the basics of making their own short films, starting with the elements of narrative development and visual storytelling, through to the actual production of their films. The initiative will be led by a dedicated DFI team with extensive experience in the world of cinema. Students will work individually on their projects during the workshop and will have the opportunity to film at famous locations in Doha. The films made during the World Cup celebrations will be screened at the Auto cinema in Lusail.

Registration is free and open to participants aged 18 to 25. The level required is intermediate. Classes will take place from May 21 to June 23, 2022 according to the following schedule: Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
