Indian Air Force (IAF) and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Conducting Counseling and Mentoring Workshop for IAF Instructors posted in various training institutes, among others. The MoU was signed at Training Command Headquarters, IAF in Bangalore on 21 June.

“NIMHANS being a multi-disciplinary institute, with extensive experience and expertise in academics, research, mental health training and patient care, has instituted the Counseling and Mentoring Program for IAF,” says a statement.

Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, Senior Air Staff Officer, Headquarters Training Command, and Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director, NIMHANS signed the MoU.

This six-day multi-package workshop will cover topics such as adolescent development, stress management and positive coping, mental health crisis management, and its management by officers and instructors.

“The program is designed with the aim of teaching instructors assigned to various training establishments and IAF institutions to use counseling and mentoring skills effectively. This would help the trainees overcome the stress of military training imparted during the Ab-initio phase and better cope with the challenges of life in the future,” the statement read.
