PEORIA (25 News) – With more entries in the field, healthcare professionals had a chance to stay tuned during a skills workshop Wednesday at Bradley University.
The Houston-based Skills Made Easy training group visited the school to provide an additional training opportunity for people in the field. Topics covered included multiple aspects of essential care, including suturing, splint and cast, skin biopsies, and more. Coding and billing for patient services were also covered. Everyone from nurse practitioners to doctors were welcome.
According to Skills Made Easy instructor Dr. Obi Oji, the field has seen a recent increase in the number of NPs, especially for family care.
“As a family nurse practitioner, you want to know the do’s and don’ts,” she says, “and of course, provide the best care for your patients, because they rely on you.
Dr. Oji adds that having workshops like these increases clinical confidence before seeing patients in real time, especially with the increase in new practitioners. She says it’s essential to fully understand the guidelines to practice.
The workshop cost $475 for Bradley students and $575 for non-students. Participants also completed 16 hours of continuing education and 3.75 hours of pharmacology.
